| - After one visit, I'm sold that this is one of the best kept secrets in Madison.
It's a small space behind Milio's and has a small, focused menu. However, it's bright and friendly, and they do everything well. There are probably 8? tables, so get there early on the weekends for breakfast. We were there at 9 am on a Sunday, and had plenty of seating options, but it was quickly filling up as we ate. There's also plenty of parking (a nice sized lot) and a bike rack.
Drinks: They have a special blend of coffee from local roaster Just Coffee, and make espresso drinks, too. I didn't pay attention to other options.
Breakfast food: Don't miss the pastry case at the counter. Homemade "poptarts", huge delicious looking muffins and morning buns. We had a breakfast sandwich and biscuits and gravy. The breakfast sandwich was served on one of their delicious biscuits, and I had mine with egg, cheese and bacon. There are lots of toppings to choose from (e.g., spinach, roasted red peppers, havarti), but I was in the mood for a classic. It was hearty and filling, but not one of these odd monstrosities that seem to be common now. It all stayed together as I was eating it. It was served with really nice citrus wedges. The biscuits and gravy are the best! Hubby is a b&g snob...none of this "gravy with a sausage patty" or sysco will impress him. The serving is large (3 biscuits) and the gravy is so, so flavorful. Meaty, spicy, savory. Then we found the hot sauces (by the water/silverware), which appear to be homemade. We sprinkled on the smoked sauce and it was the perfect compliment.
Service: The staff was super friendly, helpful and patient.
I can't wait to go back! I'll have a pastry and he'll have those beautiful b&g again.
