I've wanted to check out this holiday "attraction" for years and finally got a chance this December and glad I did. The several story tall Christmas tree adorned with lush decor and lights really gets you in a cheerful mood. There are plenty of oval shaped outdoor ice skating rinks around town, but you literally get to skate around this tree and sit around it as you take a break while watching families - all smiles - returning to childhood fun playing on ice.
I had friends visiting from Quebec, so of course they had their reservations about the quality of the ice and sharpness of the skates, but I still really enjoyed just the idea of skating outdoors in Arizona. Yeah, the ice was a bit choppy and uneven at certain spots, but that's to be expected in non-ideal conditions for man made ice outdoors right?
The light up LED snow flakes blinking over the rink flanking the sides of the Christmas tree were also fun. For $15, you get your skate rental and get to skate for as long as you'd like. You get a wrist band and can leave and eat dinner and come back and skate some more if you wanted. It does get pretty crowded as it gets later in the evening and it is tricky maneuvering around people who never skated before so you do have to watch out for that. This is still a fun worth-trying-at-least-once activity!
