  • Staying at my sister's place while visiting the Valley for Thanksgiving, and of course she didn't have any food, certainly no breakfast grub. Google Maps tells me that one of the nearest breakfast joints is Oink Cafe, and based on the name alone, I felt we should try it out. Since it was a nice morning, my lady and I walked the relatively short distance to give it a shot. It was a lot bigger than I expected, I guess I was picturing some little hole-in-the-wall with grease everywhere and some grumpy old lady slinging bacon everywhere in an effort to appease the hungry masses crammed into the place. No, it was spacious and clean. The menu was typical, except for the flight of bacon. I love beer, and routinely get flights of beer when they are available, but I am not a huge fan of bacon and don't feel the need to try all 10 (or whatever) varieties of bacon this place has. I'm sure plenty of people do, but I felt it was a silly novelty. I ordered the chorizo and eggs, my lady had a ranchero omelet. She ordered it without onions, it came out with hella onions, but the server was very friendly and attentive and took it back and it was quickly replaced with the correct version without the evil onions. My fiancee also had a Bloody Mary (with bacon) and raved about it. I don't dig on Bloody Mary's so I was unimpressed, but she said it was one of the best she's had in a long time. My food was delicious, especially the side of jalapeno bacon I ordered. Yeah, I know, I said I don't love bacon, but I figured I had to try one of the flavors. Good God, the jalapeno bacon was incredible. It was just the right amount of spice to liven up an otherwise drab piece of fatty meat. It almost made wish that I had ordered the flight, just to see if the other flavors were as delicious. Almost. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive. The atmosphere was a little bit stale because it lacked intimacy, but there is plenty of hand-colored pig art adorning the walls to occupy your time. Overall, it was a very pleasant breakfast experience, much better than finishing off the stale box of cereal at my sister's place.
