| - I feel like I need to write two different reviews of this place because the quite lounge you encounter around 7pm is nothing like the club that you'll be waiting in line to get in after the DJ arrives at 11pm.
Reading some great reviews on here (thanks fellow yelpers), my friend and I decided to check out the Hideaway. Sleeman's white and red were on special, 2 pints for $10, which was a great deal. We enjoyed the quiet, low-key atmosphere and chatted with the bartender for a while. My friend ordered and enjoyed the crab cakes and we learned that the entire menu is homemade by the owner's mother. How can you go wrong with that?
While we were there, I noted the quite jazz and said "this isn't 90s hip hop, but it's still really nice," and then learned that the place is very different (read: packed wall-to-wall) once the DJ gets pumping at 11. We returned shortly after midnight and had to wait a few minutes to get in. The music was pumping and the party was loud. By then the beer was up to $7, though shots were still at $5. If you're a real hearty partier, though, bottle service is available, because who doesn't buy a bottle of Jameson when they go out?
Fortunately, my friend and I were down with both vibes, but if you don't like lots of people and loud music, come early, and if you like a hopping place, come by a little later. Either way, stop by, tip your bartender, and enjoy a nice time in a beautiful, American prohibition-style speakeasy.
