| - Tl;Dr: Don't move here if you can avoid it. Seriously. Don't.
So the first month was not terrible, sure I was unhappy that their website clearly said A/C was included when it is in fact just a "cooling unit", but other than that I had no complaints. Now we have been here for several months and I have gone from slightly perturbed to irate.
First of all is the A/C situation as mentioned above. There are dials in each apartment that are supposed to be controlling it, but they don't work. All that works is a dial that allows you to turn the air from off, to barely on, to slight blow; but if you put your hand further than a foot from the vent you can't feel anything! There are some places, like Wisconsin, where I'd be ok with that, but Arizona?!
Second there is the pool. The pool itself is great! Almost always clean and the water is at least semi-heated, but the gates! We live super close to the front pool, it actually added to the price of our rent having a "pool side view". However the gate closest to us and the second closest have been consistently padlocked for the past several months for absolutely no reason. Wouldn't be near as bad if we weren't being charged extra for our ease of access.
Third is maintenance. The have stopped by once shortly after we moved in, but I have requested them twice since and we haven't gotten a knock. One of our toilets requires that we push the stopper down every time we flush and our shower head screams at us for the duration of our showers.
Fourth and not even close to finally is the new management/their tech department. The first month after new management took over we weren't able to pay rent online which means that we had to get a cashiers check or money order to pay rent. That made our already over expensive rent go up by the price of a night out with my wife. Then this month was the final straw. I went and signed up for an account online so that I could pay rent online with this new management company, BH Homes. I added our bank account, submitted payment, and was sent a confirmation email that said the payment had gone through. Over the past week my wife and I have checked the account multiple times daily just waiting for the payment to post, but nothing happened. Then yesterday I get a note on my door saying that we're past due and will now be charged $150+ extra on top of our rent.
So I went to discuss it with the people in the office and was told that the payment bounced and that it must be our bank's fault (our bank is Wells Fargo and so that was a definite possibility). This morning we checked with them and they said that they had no record of it and so it must be managements fault.
Long story somewhat shorter, I forgot one number in our account number and the payment never went through. However I was not told that by either their website nor staff. I had no idea anything was wrong until we already owed more money which is an outrage.
I can say one thing for sure, we will not be continuing our contract and we will not be recommending Solara to anyone else.
