| - We recently spent 6 nights in Vegas. We checked in at Aria on a Sunday and decided to upgrade to the Sky Suites (something we've never experienced before; they were offering it for $60 a day, extra). While we were told it would be the same room as the normal hotel, I guess I'm surprised (in retrospect) that it wasn't a suite. I mean... Sky SUITES? It was the same single room with two double beds. Weird. Still... the woman at the front desk told us, so we weren't lied to. I just expected that the room would be a little nicer (it wasn't). In fact, if you look on their site, they lead you to believe all Sky Suites are actually suites.
I think it's a separate hotel within Aria. It has its own entrance and comes with a ton of perks (think club level at the Ritz-Carlton, though unlike the Ritz... it's lacking a bit). The biggest perk... the entrance is by the restaurants, so you're super close to everything. If you walk out on the casino level, they have the private lounge and you're right next to Lemongrass. If you walk out one level up (Promenade), you're by Bardot and Carbone. It's also, as a result, closer to the parking garage. The private lounge is nice, but... (as I said) lacking. They had two wines all week - a malbec and a pinot grigio. Who the hell drinks those? Hey, Sky Suites... go with a more popular varietal like a chard or a cab/pinot noir. Oh, and... dim the lights at night so that it's more inviting a space to actually lounge in. The VIP lounges at other hotels usually offer a wider selection and something other than cheese and crackers. That said, it's hard to complain with "complimentary."
The room was kind of dusty when we arrived. The wall lights by the bed didn't work properly. The worst... on our last night, there was a party in the room next door. We called, twice, to complain (3AM/4AM; so loud that it kept us up with ear plugs on)... but they took forever to quiet down (if they ever did). The hotel was nice enough to give us a late check out (offered prior to the noise complaints), but when we woke up at 8AM and heard the Wolf Pack going at it next door (room service arrived to cater their breakfast hangover fest)... we decided to check out early since sleeping in wasn't going to be an option. That last night soured my view of Aria... to some extent. I say "to some extent" in that... we'll be back, though maybe not the Sky Suites unless they actually give us a suite (i.e. two separate rooms). Aria remains my favorite casino hotel on the strip (Mandarin Oriental is my favorite hotel, overall). They just added a Burger Lounge, which... sounds trivial, but this place needs more dining options. Javier's, Blossom, Bardot... they're all great, but Aria needs more variety (including music, as well).
