| - After a somewhat unpleasant trip to the Christmas Market at the Distillery District - it's so damn crowded and it's not even free! - we were looking for a quiet pub to unwind and have a drink. We passed The Jason George and since I'd been wanting to check the joint out for a while, it was a no-brainer.
We managed to snag a booth at the back and the place boasts exactly the kind of laid-back, cozy vibe I'd been hoping for. It's unfortunate, then, that the food offerings are somewhat underwhelming.
We decided to share a couple of items:
Riblets ("Crispy dry ribs dusted in a curry seasoning, raita dip"): I'll be honest, I only ordered this because I was curious what it was. And indeed, this is a plate of tiny ribs that are accompanied by a pretty decent dipping sauce. But the problem is there's not much meat to be found on these ribs and the plate comes with less than a dozen, so it's basically like you're getting two spoonfuls of meat. The curry seasoning is applied very liberally, as well, and you wind up with that taste in your mouth for the rest of the day.
Jason George Burger ("1/2 lb beef burger, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, toasted Ace Bakery bun"): The burger fared even worse. The patty is almost certainly straight out of the freezer and, making matters worse, it's been mixed with an almost unconscionable amount of unnecessary spices. It was oddly mushy, too, and the incredibly dense bun doesn't help matters. I only ate a few bites of this, which should tell you how awful it was.
But I'm still giving The Jason George three stars just because I enjoyed the atmosphere and the two beers I had.
