  • I am getting a new job at a hospital and I had to come to this facility for drug testing and physical. When I got in there the waiting room was quite full for people waiting however they called me in the back pretty quickly like they did the other ones waiting. First let me start off by saying I will be working in the billing office which requires billing, calling insurance companies, etc. however the nurse felt the need to give me a full on physical. From a vision exam, hearing test, and even a color test although I wasn't taking a physical for DOT. They then did my drug test which was basic like any other drug test I have taken. But by this time I was pissed off because I currently work for a hospital now and it required a physical also however nothing to the extent this place did. I then started to resist and complain a little bit because by this time I was pissed off because I have had a physical like this before and all I will be doing is sitting at a desk in the office so that doesn't require me to do all of these test. So after all of the unnecessary testing I went back to the room and the director/practice administrator came and and talked to me and let me know that I didn't have to do anything that I wasn't comfortable with and that they physical was a general for all no matter what job description is. I explained to her what type of job I would be doing and she was understanding and agreed with me regarding the intense physical. But get this........low and behold I was blown away by what the nurse asked mt to do next!!! She told me to get undressed top and bottom and put a gown on. WTF??? I absolutely refused and there was no reason why I needed to do all of that as I am not getting a physical that would even require me doing that!!! Oh by this time I'm really pissed and upset and blood pressure has raised beyond where it should be. The doctor came in shortly after and he was very nice and pleasant and I explained to him what was happening to me and what was going on. Guess what he said??? My job description doesn't require all of what they were telling me to do. He said if I were applying for a job that required driving, working around heavy machinery, or dangerous chemicals that would warrant they type of physical they were doing. He asked me a few questions on the paperwork I filled out regarding my health, look at my ears, looked at my mouth, and then asked me to stand. He wanted me to raise my hands, bend over, turn my neck from side to side, and twist my waist from side to side and all within 10 minutes my visit was over and of course I was cleared!!!! I understand that they do require this for a physical but I think they need to tweak these based on job description. Let's say I was a telecommuter (work from home) why would they require these unnecessary tests? But then again it all boils down to money they can get from billing the employer. I really appreciate the director/practice manager coming in to try to calm me down and address my issues but yall really need to look into using discretion when handling patients like me. As I am writing this the next morning I am still very upset and pissed off because of what I experienced yesterday.
