We've seen Dr. Mendoza in the past and I was very impressed. We just went in for our yearly check up this month (April 2015) and I was so disappointed at the changes we encountered.
We were kept waiting for more than 2 hours for our appointment, being told that the Dr. had stepped out for 15 minutes. Office staff acted as though we were annoying them for questioning when we might be seen.
They didn't have our records from last year - I understand that he has left his former practice and was acclimating to a new system, but it doesn't take much time to scan and print records within a two week window. We spent the majority of our ten minute visit with the PA. The doctor himself was rushed and seemed to be racing through our appointment - we saw him for maybe three minutes. My child needed a test he said, so they took a sample. Heard nothing back until I called them after more than a week of waiting. They gave me the results and I asked what the doctor recommended and the woman said "oh, there's nothing here." I had more questions and began asking her to have the doctor call me and she hung up.
Cons:
1) Office staff is awful. Front desk had a decided lack of manners during our two hour wait period. On the phone, the woman I spoke with regarding test results was terse and rude. A terrific staff goes a long way especially when the doctor himself is too busy to be on time for appointments. Not the case here.
2) Wait time is atrocious.
3) Doctor is rushed and seemingly too busy to deal with parents for anything significant.
4) There is an assembly line feel to the practice now. No personality and no warmth.
Pros:
1) Dr. Mendoza is terrific - that is why the disappointment. He is a talented doctor and was understanding and kind during all our previous visits.
2) Separate entrances for well and sick children. This is good, but the rooms themselves are still connected through the open-space office.
If this visit is indicative of their new norm - we won't be returning.
