Others have already addressed the adoption process, the volunteer process, and the condition of the animals. I will review the donation experience.
I made a donation of medical and other supplies for the animals at this care center. I got the idea from Amazon Wish Fulfillment. Basically companies put their "wish lists" on the site and customers and other people can purchase what they need and have it delivered it to them, or bring it in person to them. I decided to bring in my gift in person since I had never visited the shelter.
It was a fun atmosphere on a Saturday early afternoon, a little chaotic, but perhaps that is to be expected. There is no one to greet you or orient you when you come in. I was pretty happy that someone finally saw me standing looking cross and confused holding two big boxes and came over to inquire. He was cool. He took the medical supplies off my hands, but then had me sign a form for the rest of the donation. The wait for that was a little long, and the woman seemed a bit harried and all over the place, but she was nice enough. They did not seem too organized back there, and they did not give me a donation receipt.
Overall, the part of the shelter I saw looked a bit dirty and "Third World." A little disappointing for a city like Las Vegas. Can't we do a bit better for unwanted pets and the forever families who adopt them?
