I have a seasonal home in NC and Duke Energy is the electric provider. Its always a hassle dealing with them!
I turn off the power for the winter so their procedures make me an unknown entity each year when I have to create a brand new account, sine in, and password. They suggest just leave the power on all winter to avoid the hassle! Yeah right. You would think with thousands of seasonal folks that come from Florida for the summers they could at least pause your account. NOPE! No way on that.
Then each year they make you pay the first payment by check. Why I dont know. You can sine up for auto pay anytime but they say mail in the first payment by check, they promise it WONT autodraft the first payment, then after that it will auto draft.
Well what happens is they cash your check AND it autodrafts the same payment also, so you double pay. They promise you that this wont happen but it does. Worse yet then after that the auto pay turns itself off and nothing gets drafted. So after awhile I realize nothing is coming out of my checking and I look and I have a big bill with some small late fees now to pay too!
Two years in a row now doing this and when you call they cant tell me how the auto pay turns itself off. So I go to enroll it again but it wont enroll if you have a balance due. I go to pay it and ah ha....its knows and has my checking account # already!!! They tell me I never signed up for auto pay. Well if I didnt why did it draft the first payment right off? Why does it have my checking acct #?
I then wait a few hours after I paid the entire bill and go in to then sign up again for auto pay. At this time it tells me I am ALREADY enrolled. So suddenly its back on when they told me earlier today I never signed up.
Obviously making you pay by check knocks off the auto pay you have already created. You would think the company would be able to figure out whats happening but they cant.
Simple billing issues are too much for this company to handle. It is a total failure here. It also pollutes our environment. 1 star is being generous!
The only good thing is that if you sine on to their website they sometimes have a free CFL bulb offer. I dont know if Duke pays or if funds come from a grant but you get a box of 15 free CFL bulbs. I think its a one time deal only and it says bulbs must be installed in the home with the Duke account.
