  • My wife and I were ecstatic to learn that a new bakery moved into the same plaza where Fox's Pizza is located on Leechburg Road. This is not a trendy shop that you hit up because your phone needs charged or because you want to Instagram yourself sipping on espressos while eating a scone. No, this is an old school bakery with excellent breads, cookies, and pastries à la Jenny Lee style. Mazziotti Bakery was previously located on Freeport Road in New Kensington, but the shop is under new ownership and has filled a much needed niche in Lower Burrell. There are numerous options for the person with a sweet tooth. The cookies - whether chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, or chocolate crinkles - are huge and always fresh. They also offer up cupcakes, danishes, eclairs, and a number of other pastries. You can purchase or order round or sheet cakes for any occasion. The bakery also has pepperoni rolls, round buns, Italian bread in both small and large loafs, and a number of other types of bread. Both the bread and buns are fresh. The bread in particular is a worthwhile purchase whether using it to make sandwiches or adding it to a pasta dish. Either way, it is fantastic. Next time you're at Giant Eagle, skip their bakery and drive down to Mazziotti Bakery instead. Your taste buds will be rewarded, and you will be supporting a deserving local business!
