| - We bought a set of reclining furniture here for our home theatre room. The experience of buying was alright; the furniture was what we wanted and at a decent price. Not spectacular mind you, but about the same as other places. They had what we wanted in stock and delivery was "free", so we decided to pull the trigger. You can't turn around and take 3 steps in their store without running into a salesperson, so we grabbed one and got the process started on our $3K purchase.
On a side note, as we are making the purchase I'm passed a purchase agreement to sign. In the fine print is a statement saying that I give Leon's permission to call our home with automated voice messages. I have a great disdain for any business that would employ such a method of "advertising", and boycott anyone who would do such a thing. But given that I caught it, struck it from the agreement and made them remove me from their system on the spot, I let that slide in this review.
My real problem with this business, and the reason I think nobody should shop there (I never will again), is their delivery "service". It's "free", and you get what you pay for. Actually, it's not really free... it's 3% of your purchase which can be knocked off the price if you opt to pick it up yourself.
For starters, they made us pick a weekday and would not specify in advance when they would come... instead, they call you in the morning *the day of* and then tell you a 2 hour window. So you really have no choice but to take the entire day off work unless your employer is very flexible.
I could have lived with that, as much as I didn't like it, since I knew how it was going to be before I made the purchase. We get the call shortly after 8AM and the caller informs me that the delivery people will arrive between 3PM and 5PM. "Okay, they can't be late though", I said, "because I have a hockey game at 6PM". "Oh no, that won't happen, we're never late", I was assured.
Long story short, the delivery truck never came. Of course, as I'm calling their warehouse at quarter to 5 to see what's going on, nobody is answering the phone. That's a given. Well after 5, someone calls me to inform me "the delivery truck will be late"... yeah, you think? But the best part of this call was the arrogant, condescending attitude I got when I informed them that I had to leave and they'd have to deliver it another day now. I was basically treated like I was quite the jerk for not making myself available when it was finally convenient for them to show up. When I tried to turn the situation around and insist that they bring the delivery on Saturday because I've already taken a day off and they've already wasted my day once, I was firmly informed "that's not how it works". The tone of the person I was speaking to again conveyed how stupid I was to even suggest such a thing.
We still don't have our furniture. We're booked for a Saturday delivery next week and I can only cross my fingers and hope they feel like showing up this time. Assuming the furniture does show up and is as expected, I'll still never shop at Leon's again. Their arrogant, unapologetic attitude about not showing up (and it goes without saying, total unwillingness to make any effort to make it right) conveys to me that this is not going to be an isolated incident... their attitude seems to be at this point in the sale "we've got your money, so what the hell are you going to do about it?".
Well, I'm warning you, that's what I'm doing about it. Don't shop at Leon's. You'll find the same value (and in many cases the exact same furniture) in other stores, so do yourself a favour and look everywhere else first.
