I love hiking this mountain range. Usery Mountain is just northwest of Apache Junction and neighbors Tonto National Forest. It's over 3,000 acres and has several camping sites (with picnic tables, BBQ ring, water and electrical hook-ups), an archery range, horseback riding and a nature center. There are also a few hiking trails with the popular one being the Wind Cave trail. Wind Cave is a out-an-back trail that is just under 3 miles. It's dog-friendly, easy to moderate and offers spectacular views of the Valley as you hike up to the cave area. The elevation gain is around 700 ft. If you want to keep hiking past the cave just keep in mind that it is unmarked. The cave itself is not much but there is plenty of room to rest and eat a packed lunch. For photographers, this is a great trail to take photos on as the hike itself isn't too strenuous and the landscape is gorgeous. The entry fee is $6 to get in and they are open all year round.
