I bought a Groupon that included a half hour of instruction and a half hour of free shooting for four people, and I have to admit, the experience was pretty terrible at first.
When you walk in, the place is extremely low-rent and run down, so expectations were not high. And then we were shown into the main target range area, which is fairly tiny. But the worst part was we were in there with about 20 other people, so it was uncomfortably crammed. I would guess that within the span of that initial half hour, I was able to shoot no more than five arrows.
The experience improved considerably as all those other people went into the fighting arena and we were left in the target range by ourselves. We were allowed to shoot as much as we wanted for the remaining half hour and one of the instructors helpfully pointed out tips to improve our aim (and eventually came up with a competitive game for the three of us).
Even with the Groupon, I feel like I overpaid but it was ultimately a pretty good time.
