| - I really hope someone of some sort of authority at GCU reads this, because I speak for several people when I say the following.
I am stuck going to this school out of pure convince, being that it is a 15 minute commute for me, I can do online & on campus, and I got an amazing scholarship so my student loans are minimal compared to what they would be elsewhere. That is the only place the two stars comes from. I started going to GCU 3 years ago after it came highly recommended by some friends and colleagues of mine. I even went to their "Discover GCU" event and fell in love. The atmosphere was incredible, the people; even better. I had never been in dorms that were more state of the art (decided not to live on campus to keep costs down, but the facilities are amazing). In the last two years, I have been less than pleased , and considered going elsewhere for my degree. I started online, but when I applied to go on campus a little over a year ago, I was promised (as it is also in their commercials) about 20 people in a class, give or take. I took a demo class on campus and there were 17 people! Great! I was in. I wanted the community college feel, with the university name attached. Now, my friends class sizes are as much as 40 people! Not what any of us were promised. It is awesome that the school is expanding, but it is getting almost too large, and the students are feeling the brunt of it. Whether it is lackadaisical advisors who do not return a call, teachers who are taking twice as long to grade work, walking 30 minutes just to get from one end of campus to another, or, not being able to even get basketball tickets because they are now suddenly "selling out" GCU needs a reality check and FAST. It takes an hour to get food in the union, even during off hours. GCU staff is not even helpful anymore, due to being too overwhelmed by the influx of students. As far as the "always something going on" and fun events atmosphere & attitude, you can forget about it now. Every event is now overly jammed due to too many students and you're often not let in, but that may not be such a bad thing because the events suck so much. There is almost no effort put in to them anymore and it's truly sad. My friends that do live on campus would rather lay in bed and watch movies then go out and about on campus. Also, I am tired of being treated as less than not only by faculty, but by the student busy because I am not in the nursing program. I know this school can offer more because they used to. Instead of worrying about the NUMBER of students that is associated with this school, they need to be worried about their experiences, course material, online program (which is abominable) and the happiness of their students. I will continue to go to GCU as most of the students are great, and I love the values that goes along with this school versus the others in the state, but I hope things can turn around by the time I graduate, or I will be walking across the stage with a sour face, and a degree from a place I felt financially obligated to attend.
