  • Because significant hair loss is very distressing, often devastating, it can render you vulnerable to a savvy wig salesman whose sole interest is in making a sale rather than being sensitive to and respectful of your needs. Such is the case at Continental Hair on Avenue Road. Avoid it. I needed a topper to replace the worn human hairpiece I had purchased in another city at a high end specialty shop for those with cancer and alopecia. I visited Continental Hair after finding it online. My specifications on length and colour were clear and I was emphatic about heavy density on the crown and top of the head. In fact,I wanted a healthy duplicate of the topper I had been wearing. After a quick look at what I was wearing the owner literally tossed it aside declaring it "not real." In this uppity manner, which pervaded the consultation, he said I could back-comb it for the density. I made it clear I wanted the very thickness of the piece to render that unnecessary. He mumbled (more to himself) that the crown would have more hair than the top of the head. I wasn't comfortable with that either and again requested even thickness from crown to forehead. "Not a problem at all," I was told.I regrettably left a $1500.00 deposit on the $3500.00 piece. I returned 12 weeks later to strings of hair that were so flat that the piece looked liked road kill 5x over or an Afghan Hound that had been caught in the rain. No amount of the owner's eye rolling, sighing and urging almost to the point of badgering to have it styled could convince me that it would ever look like what I had ordered. He simply had ignored my specifications for thickness. He did offer to add some more hair and I left the store, still feeling unsettled. I called the next day to cancel the order because he would have had to add more than 5x the amount on that piece for it to be anywhere near what I had requested. I knew that just wasn't going to happen. My request for a refund of my deposit was refused and I am presently taking up the matter with Consumer Protection. Based on my experience with Continental Hair, I would strongly urge you to stay far away from it.
