| - Been to IKEA a couple times, and every-time I come out just thinking "ehh it was okay." It's a good place to walk around when it's cold and misty out, and pick up a few cool items. We'll start from the entrance and work our way to the exit.
Entrance:
-Sign up for the IKEA family card, get free coffee/tea upstairs, and coupons/promos in your email, plus extra kiddie time in Smaland if you need that.
-If you have kids, drop them off in the kiddie play area, they get to play and you get to shop with out keeping an eye on them :)
-Grab a cart/bag (just in case) and then head up the escalator or the elevator.
Cafeteria:
-Grab your free coffee or tea! Coffee was delightfully, and very surprisingly good!
-Chicken fingers and fries are ok. They weren't hot, by any means, and most of it was cold by the time I got my drink and sat down to eat. I got 4 chicken fingers I believe and a good bit of fries. Nice sized portion=$5.99, it was a little pricey for the quality. I'd opt next time to eat at the Zaxby's that just opened up across the parking lot, (they have real chicken).
-Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, and Lingon Berry Jam. My friend got this and she said it was very good. Just from looking at them they looked like the kind you can buy in the freezer section at HT, rubbery texture-I can't stand that! But she was happy with them....
-Check online before you go to see what they are serving for the specials. Scroll down to the bottom of the IKEA site and click on "IKEA Food & Restaurant"
Upstairs:
-Walk around and enjoy roaming in and out of the "rooms" and concept spaces. Explore in the cabinets and drawers, as a lot of them have things inside to show you what it might actually be like with clothing. There are some things you can grab to buy around here, why you might need the cart. Otherwise, everything is tagged and it tells you where to grab it downstairs. My suggestion is just open up the notepad on your phone and type the info in, otherwise grab the map at the beginning of your exploration to write down the info on the back in the provided space.
Unfortunately the Kitchen area was completely shut off for a gut and redo, so may wanna call before you head out if you are shopping for something in particular!
Downstairs:
Pick up all your goods and all the items you wrote down in the downstairs section. Everything from candles, to napkins, to cups, to art ware, to lighting, bedding, trashcans, and plants are all downstairs. Then head into the next section that's set up like a ware house and pick up your big items like the furniture. When you head towards the registers, look over to the right, kinda hidden you can go explore the scratch and dent if your heart desires. Then go check out! Pay attention to the registers, some of them are Debit/Credit Only, and others also take cash, so pay attention!!
There is a little food shop and "Bistro" after you check out where you can pick up some traditional Scandinavian foods.
The "Bistro" looks more like a high school foot ball stadium food area, and the quality isn't much better. I don't know about you but I expect more from the word "bistro" than cheap hotdogs, cheap frozen yogurt, and sad cinnamon rolls.
Just FYI you cannot get your free coffee downstairs, only upstairs!! And the cinnamon buns looked and smelled better than they tasted......
