  • NOTE: Management did assist in fixing issues. However, I will NEVER go to a Courtyard again. We booked a block of rooms for our wedding in October of 2014. Kim and Schechinah were both fantastic as far as helping us set everything up. The night before the wedding, my buddies and I sat at the bar and began to order drinks. We were ordering simple, classic, cocktails that any bartender should be prepared to make. The woman behind the bar was so bad, that we had to start telling her how to make said drinks. At one point, my buddy ordered three shots of tequila for the group and a rum and coke for himself. After explaining to her that the tequila wasn't supposed to go into the rum and coke, she made the rum and coke and poured three shots of tequila into one glass. Mind you, there will three guys sitting there and he asked for three shots. This isn't rocket science. The next day, after the reception, most of the people at the reception came to the hotel for the after party. The same bartender from the previous night was working the bar. One of my buddies bought me a drink and it was supposed to be added to his tab. I found out later, it wasn't, or it was added to mine as well. A little later, I asked for another. Just to see, I asked for the price. The bartender said she didn't know. In her defense, the hotel bought that bottle, of Maker's Mark, just for us that night. So, I gave her $50 and said that should cover me for a while. During the night, I had a lot of people come up to me complaining about the service. First there were complaints on the prices of the drinks. I chalked most of it up to the fact that hotels upcharge everything. That was until I noticed someone getting a Kahlua and cream (Bailey's). The bartender tried to charge that person for each ingredient. Meaning, she charged them the same you would charge if the person ordered Kahlua and Bailey's as two separate drinks. That's not how it's done. $20 for one mixed drink is flat out ridiculous. He, very nicely, explained to her that that's not how you charge someone for a mixed drink and she lowered the price. At the end of the night, after having two more drinks myself, I asked her for the total of the bill to make sure she got tipped well. Mind you, I had already given her $50 in cash. So I got the bill and found out it was still open and considered not paid for. It said that I bought three double whiskeys. First of all, I only two and second, I didn't order doubles. I never order doubles. Remember, I had already handed her $50. My tab was like $45. I asked her what happened to the money I gave her and she said that she thought that it was tip. I asked her why I would just tip someone $50 right off the bat. She had no answer. I asked her about why she charged me for doubles and she coped an attitude with me about it. Mind you, she wasn't pouring me doubles either way. I asked to speak to a manager and there wasn't one present. Now by this time, it was late at night and all I wanted to do was go to my room with my new bride. So, I told the bartender, that I would deal with it tomorrow, paid my bill, and left it at that. So officially I paid for 3 doubles twice when I only was supposed to pay for two singles once. When I went to check out the next morning, a Sunday, there again, was no manager present. I understand a little about the hospitality business, but after bringing in a large crowd for the whole weekend, you'd think someone would be there to make sure everything went smoothly. The front desk person looked mortified when I explained what happened. They gave me the manager's card. A few days later, Kim emailed me asking how everything went. I told her that there were some issues at the bar that would need to be discussed. She responded, very kindly, saying that we would work it out. She also said that I had an open tab from Saturday. That set me off. I paid for my drinks essentially twice, was charged for doubles when I only got singles, and yet somehow my tab had never been closed. The first time I paid, it was with cash. The second time, was with my card. I reached out to the people who came that night and heard lots of horror stories that were very similar to my own. People being overcharged, people being charged for drinks they didn't buy, slow service, complaints about how drinks were made, etc. A few people actually left and grabbed booze from a liquor store just so they wouldn't have to deal with her.
