  • The Hoover Dam is such an amazing structure built with a lot of man power. Definitely take a trip whenever you're in Vegas to learn about its history. Parking is $10 and a short walking distance away from the Visitor's Center. There are two tours: The Hoover Dam Tour and the Power Plant Tour. You need to get there early if you wish to purchase the Hoover Dam Tour. We came on a Tuesday around 10 A.M. and were told that the next Hoover Dam tour was at 1 P.M. Unfortunately, we could not wait that long so we opted for the other tour. Both tours first start with a picture in front a green screen for the option to purchase pictures with you and a computerized background of the Hoover Dam at the end of the tour. The tour then follows with a 10 minute video of the dam's history. A head's up for those who are claustrophobic... Actually it might be best if you don't do any of these tours as they try to fit as many people in one big elevator as you descend 500+ feet underground. That's 11 seconds being super cozy with strangers. Our tour guide was informative but her overall presentation reminded me of my student days stuck in a classroom. She explained in further detail of the parts making up the dam with a lit up map, then led us to the generators for more information. The Power Plant Tour ends here, where we are led back up to ground level while the Hoover Dam Tour continues into another tunnel past the generators. For those of you who do not wish to do any of the tours, looking around the museum, walking along the top layer of the dam to enjoy its beauty, and taking pictures are just enjoyable by itself.
