| - This museum was definitely one of the major highlights of our trip to Vegas! We made an afternoon out of visiting the Neon Museum and the Mob Museum. Both are located in the same general area, outside Freemont. You can get a slight discount by purchasing tickets online to both museums. We encountered no problems at all with the online ticket purchases. It is possible to get here without a car or taxi. We took a bus from the Strip and walked a while. This may not be advisable if it's super hot, but we did not find the walk bad at all. The walk is through a mix of businesses and some housing and is definitely not upscale, but I did not feel unsafe, especially in broad daylight. After reading the many Yelp reviews that advised visiting during the day, we followed the Yelpers' recommendations and came in the afternoon. It is hot, but they provide black umbrellas at no additional charge to shield you from the sun. The only way to see the signs is by guided tour. You cannot just wander around. They say that it is too dangerous, since many of the signs contain old, toxic chemicals and apparently they're worried about people walking around the signs unsupervised. Our tour guide was so enthusiastic and informative. I had not been that interested in Vegas history before coming here, but I left our tour wanting to learn so much more. I recommend brushing up on your panoramic photo skills before coming here. Since you have to stand so close to the signs during the guided tour, you can't get a photo of many of the larger signs without using a panoramic setting. It also may be difficult to get pictures of all the signs you want since you have to keep moving with the tour. They do give you some time at the end to take pictures with the larger signs near the entrance, but you can't go back and take pictures of the smaller signs.
They also have a really great gift shop with lots of cool magnets, stationary, tees and postcards. I would like to see postcards of more of the signs, though.
Overall, I was super happy with this experience and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Vegas. I'd love to come back for the night tour, especially if they are able to renovate more of the signs.
