| - Horrible. Scheduled the massage day in advance, explained I wanted to take advantage of the hour long introductory special for $49.95 (the hour part will be important later). I expressed that I wanted to add the scalp massage and cold stone facial treatment as I've been having a ton headaches lately. Woman who booked the service was extremely pleasant and explained that the cold stone treatment was great for headaches and would help. She mentioned a marble block that went at the base of the neck during treatment to help with the blood vessels, etc. I recently started a new post and have had exactly one day off per week for the last 6 weeks. To say I'm stressed is an understatement. Was completely excited for my appointment and was looking forward to my session. I arrived at approximately 3:50 (this will be important in a a moment, bare with me), rushing in hoping I wasn't going to delay the treatment or masseuse. Ha! I filled out the paperwork and had a very brief wait. Paid in advance with gratuity (total was over $100 with add on's and gratuity). At that time, the woman at the front desk started to ask if I would consider joining as a 'member', month to month, $49 massage or facial each month. In my head, I'm thinking this could be awesome, I sought out Hand & Stone because I found out they were franchise operated and I'm a big believer in supporting independently and family owned businesses. My masseuse arrived and I went back into the treatment room (nothing to write home about, pretty standard and honestly not that impressive.. pretty low end in reflection). My masseuse / therapist asked only 'what pressure are you thinking about today', no questions about what area I wanted to focus on, anything (this was contradictory to the conversation I had on the phone scheduling, the woman said a customized treatment would be explained beforehand with the therapist). I told the therapist about my headaches and that I wanted to concentrate on the top of my shoulders and my neck, where I keep all of my tension. The therapist delivered what I can only say was the least impressive massage I've ever received. I mean, when I was broke and would go to the massage school for treatment I received worlds better service. There was no symmetry to the treatment, never massaged any portion of my extremities once I flipped over and was inconsistent with her pressure.. It was horrible. Then she delivered what was potentially the worst 'cold stone' treatment (imagine a 5 year old franticly moving marbles over your face.. yup that's the treatment). No marble block (I was told by the masseuse that was a separate treatment and to ask for the additional 25 minute facial next time I came in...). Then the peppermint scalp massage... Absurd. Consists of masseuse putting peppermint oil on her hands, telling me to 'breathe deeply' and then emulate a motion of similar to what one would expect when having their hair washed at a salon.. frantic actions more like 'scratching' my scalp than any pressure point / therapeutic action. It was horrible. The kicker is when I was getting dressed. Looked down at my phone and the 4 pm appointment for an hour long massage WITH TWO ADDED SERVICES was already over and done at 4:49.... wow. Talk about a con. This place should be ashamed. Looks like I have to go back to the chain massage studios around town (and there are plenty).
