| - For starters, I didn't even know that the Saloon's historical background. But now I understand why it looks so beat up in the daytime, thanks to comrade Crystal C.
But who the hell goes to a bar in the daytime? I probably wouldn't have come down....up....here either (it's hella north, around the freeway junction) if my friend J didn't live on Rancho. The higher rating is influenced by the good music we witnessed that summer, mostly Goldfish Don't Bounce (RIP) and Over The Line. It became something of a Deadhead thing, with us following them around to several gigs around town.....notably here, Jillian's, Gameworks, and Double Down. The last time I went up, there also was a multi-band night going on, but the crowd was sparse and there were a lot more people milling about outside smoking and talking on the cellphones. Could it be the proliferation of other spots, such as Dive- and Beauty Bar, giving people more choices for weekends and unwholesome local live entertainment? Doesn't seem the same as before. Sad to say, I soon joined the text-and-burn crowd outside the front entrance. Hmm.
