I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago with my wife and her parents for our morning coffee. The reason that we came to Steel Valley Roasters is that it was on the Pittsburgh Coffee Passport and we wanted to use our cards. It is located right on 8th Ave in Homestead and is a pretty cool space. The floor is hardwood and looks to be original and they have groups of Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling. There is also a giant painting of the statue of liberty on one wall. The only thing I didn't like about the space was that it is shared with local motion which is a fitness club. While in theory it shouldn't be a problem, there was a kickboxing class that started while we were there and so for long periods of time the couch we were sitting on as well as most of the coffee shop was vibrating. What I didn't notice in the shop was any coffee roasting equipment which you normally see if Roasters is in the name. Oh well! For my coffee on this day I went with a single origin drip and chose the Peruvian one which started with a K (sorry I forget the rest). The coffee here was pretty good as you could tell it was recently roasted and it was bright and had the fruity notes which the owner told me that it would. Due to all of that I really enjoyed my coffee here black.
The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I didn't like the noise and vibrations from the fitness class, I did enjoy the space and my coffee.
