| - My wife and I have been a couple dozen times. Must be good, right? So we stopped in for a bite, and a pre-shopping cocktail today. There wasn't much of a crowd, and based on our experience, it is totally understandable. The food tasted just as good, leaving the service as the game changer.
I like to sit at the bar for my meals out, and I've been known to tip a shot of tequila from time to time. I'd even go so far as to say that there are no shortage of bartenders throughout the valley who know me well enough to serve me a chilled shot. No salt, no lime. EVER. Haven't had to use training wheels since the early 2000's.
I ordered a shot of Patron Silver, chilled, and before I knew it, the bartender was turning away, but I still said, no salt, no lime. He didn't acknowledge that he heard, so when my shot was served with salt around the entire rim, i assumed he had indeed not heard me. Not that big a deal, so I brushed the salt off the rim. My wife, who knows me better than anyone, said, wait! Before I knew it she had the bartender's attention, and asked for a saltless shot for me.
Here starts the slippery slope. Rather than believing the customer, our barkeep looked at me and told my wife that I had asked for salt. I'm sorry, what? I said, no, I asked for no salt no lime, to which he replied something other than okay. Basically calling me a liar.He rudely continued to argue the point Excuse me, who the f*** are you to tell me what I said. Anyway, we were there, we were hungry, so on to faux pas number two.
We ordered a turkey hoagie to split. Having had it before, I knew it was enough for our desire to have a fairly lite lunch. I can name 50 restaurants that will bring the meal to you split in two on separate plates. Not at O&I today. We asked the guy who brought the food for an additional plate, and after he went to get one, the gem of a bartender asked, oh do you need an extra plate.
This may sound nit picky, and maybe it is. But we live in the Biltmore corridor, and there are just too many viable options for every occasion to have to put oneself through that kind of experience. Wake up O&I. You have what it takes, just show your customers a little common courtesy and respect.
