I should have known that seeing only one other table occupied at 7am was not a good sign; it wasn't. The coffee was pretty good and the service was decent if not overwhelming. But the breakfast - especially in the context of VALUE - left a lot to be desired. Had it not been for the fact that this place was within easy walking distance of my hotel (drizzling outside), I would have looked elsewhere.
Eleven dollars got me a French toast breakfast. The French toast was OK but that's about it. The fake maple syrup was a turn-off. The eggs were decent, but not great. But the two WIMPY strips of bacon really had me shaking my head. Four bites and gone. There is a Southern-style "Old Country Store" not far away that serves decent bacon and real maple syrup. Had it not been for the greater-than-one-mile walk, I would have gone there.
The piped-in gawdawful 70's & 80's music further added to my irritation.
Were it not for the good coffee and decent service, this place would've gotten ONE star.
