  • I consider myself kind of a snooty cocktail purist, one of those "No vodka drinks ever!" people, especially flavoured vodka. Most bar cocktails are way too sweet for me. The best drinks are the ones I mix myself using pre-Prohibition-era recipes /end self-mocking snobbishness Anyway, it'd been a while since I'd been to Las Vegas and I had heard that the general cocktail scene might have changed for the better. Someone recommended the Chandelier Bar so off I went with some friends. We started on the top (3rd) level. The decor is undeniably gorgeous and sparkly. The cocktails sounded interesting, and since my general rule when out is to order things I can't make at home, I ordered a daiquiri variation that had some unusual citrus fruit in it. I actually didn't care for that drink very much (it was one-note and very tart). We moved on to the first level as the middle level was closed. I ordered something that was a variation on the Negroni and that was quite nice; it was a lovely transparent pink and though milder than a regular Negroni, it wasn't sweet and it had the right flavours. My friend and I were about to leave but we thought to check the middle level before going, as it was past 6 pm so it was open. Here's where the 5-star review comes in. These drinks were AWESOME. We did order the famous "secret" cocktail with the flower bud in it. That was a really cool experience and definitely something I can't make at home! The two non-gimmicky drinks we had were something else, though. One was "Bruce Tea" which we ordered mostly because it sounded bonkers (countless ingredients including peanut butter, matcha, coconut vodka yes, flavoured vodka), basil...). The other... I forget the name, but it was gin-based and had various other ingredients I hadn't heard of including plum liqueur and a dusting on the rim of an exotically named powder. Anyway, those drinks were possibly the best two drinks I've ever had. I'd deduct points for the middle level only being open for a very short time, and for the bartender on the first level being patronizing at me after running out of an ingredient and refusing to try any creative substitutes, but the middle level earns all the stars.
