One of our go to drink spots before any event in downtown Phoenix. The flat bread pizzas are all pretty good and big enough for 2-3 to share; I've tried quite a few and generally prefer the carne or prosciutto. We aren't really there for the food though, as Hanny's offers a great selection of old school cocktails to choose from. You'll see classics like Aviation and The Last Word on the menu - drinks that show up in mixology books, particularly those that dive into cocktail history, but usually result in a quizzical look at most other joints. To be perfectly honest, I feel that these choices are mostly of novelty value - there are much better choices on the menu, and now that I've sampled most everything I tend to stick with tried and true standards like Manhattans, Old Fashioned and such. A couple others to try: Hanny's has a pretty interesting take on the caipirinha, allowing you to sweeten your own drink by stirring in some pink rock candy. And last night I asked for a Sazerac (not on the menu) - bartender didn't follow the traditional recipe, but it came out quite good nonetheless. The only drink so far that I would not recommend is the Mint Julep; the silver cup presentation is nice, but the bourbon wasn't properly balanced and taste was too harsh...probably because the default base is Jim Beam (I'm not a fan).
