| - Had a quick and delicious lunch here today and 3:00 PM was a perfect time to eat here because the restaurant was quite and empty. From the outside it looks just like it does on the inside, nothing fancy, just an older looking building. When walking in it's dimly lit and again there's nothing fancy to the decor except the celebrity lined wall as you enter the restaurant. Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union photos are on the wall. Once you get through the entrance we discovered what was waiting inside was worth the quick drive from Fountain Hills.
After putting in our order of 2 beef and cheese enchilada combo plates, our server brought us a hot basket of chips and two choices of salsa, and in small glass containers, one was pico de Gallo style and the other one deemed hot was in puree form. Both were equally delicious and the one the waiter told us was hot, was hot and had a nice spicy kick to it and yes, the more dips of the chips into the salsa the hotter my tongue got.
Within 15 minutes our food order came up and the waiter said "be careful the plate is super hot." Of course what do we do when a waiter says that? We touched the plates and it was truly hot, hot, hot. Lol. I looked at the plate and saw the beef taco was loaded with beef, sliced nicely, cheese and shredded lettuce and the cheese enchilada was gooey with cheese but still firm looking. And if that wasn't enough their was a healthy portion of Spanish rice and refried beans. It had to be at least 2 nice scoops of rice on this combo plate for $9.95. BTW, lunch special is daily, so make sure you ask for it as the lunch menu has a decent variety and nicely priced, even on a Sunday.
The one thing I knew for sure was that the food was gonna be amazing, it looked amazing, was served piping hot (I have a thing about getting served hot food) and once I had a little bite of everything I found that every mouthful was mouthwatering yummy and not so salty. Everything here was just right. If you want a homey, kick back and chill place where you can eat a good, reasonably priced meal try La Fonda, it's a hidden jewel in Scottsdale.
