| - Let's start this review off by changing the name from Thrifty to Thefty.....because that's what they tried to do. I reserved a car for my husband and myself online. Turned down the additional rental insurance coverage, because that's a complete waste of money. 1 I have ins coverage. 2 the card I used to reserve the car provided me with additional coverage. Never once in the 23 years that I have rented a car, have I ever used the vendors additional insurance. Also, usually once you tell the rental car employee that you don't want the coverage, they get the point and move on. At Thefty, they move on. But they add the additional "damage waiver" coverage onto your bill. By the way. That's the additional insurance. Confused by the name "damage waiver", like you're waiving the insurance. No, no, you're actually agreeing to pay for the rental car insurance. Please take a close look at your bill before you walk away from the counter and make sure your total is the same as your online total. So, my husband and I declined coverage. Thefty added it to our bill any how. When we called to extend the rental for an additional week, this is when we found out what they had done. The rep on the phone asked if we wanted to continue the additional insurance coverage. The rep directed my husband back to the branch where the transaction initiated, suggesting that the branch could reverse the insurance fees. Not only were they not willing to help us with this issue but they continued to try to sell the insurance product to us. "God forbid you get into an accident". Yea well that's why I have insurance. Also the "well your car was only 80$ to rent for the week" excuse was a nice touch. So they thought I could afford 30$ a day to pay for insurance coverage I didn't need or want. The branch managers weren't helpful. Nor was anyone in the branch. So I would suggest to everyone that you closely look at your receipt before you walk away from the counter because the employees are adding onto your bill extras so they can make their commission.
Good news. I called Capital One, that's the card I used to secure the rental, and they called Thefty and got all the charges reversed.
Thefty, I hope trying to over charge me 378$ was worth me never renting a car from you ever again. Thrifty Corporate offices, maybe you should look into the shady practices at this branch.
