  • One could say that dog ownership is not necessarily my forte considering that it has been rather been on multiple occasions. The story this time is that my dog was adopted at the Henderson Animal Shelter nearby my girlfriend's school. Being that her school is right next to this shelter it seemed the most logical thing to do since it also had very positive reviews on Yelp. The pup had a slight cough and the vet told me it could possibly be kennel cough, but to not to worry about it. The only thing they recommended me to do was to check for worms (which they promptly notified me he had none). A few days later the pup stopped eating, wasn't moving well, and the bowels movements ceased to exist. Took him for another visit a few days later (clear across town I might add) and turns out his kennel cough could have developed to either pneumonia or canine distemper. That... sucks, my poor pup. The vet came back into the room with fees costing $700 to $1200 depending on how long he had to stay with the vet. Wow. I was definitely in a shock for that, and honestly could not really afford that, so instead I opted for them to give him antibiotic injections and IV fluids. I took the prescription paper to get pet meds (on average cost $90 total) nearby my house (turns out other vets don't want to take competing clinic's prescriptions, fantastic). Force fed my dog for 3 days and gave him lots of TLC. A month later he's all better, running around pooping and peeing everywhere. While the clinic was definitely professional and prompt with their service I am definitely weary now of trusting a vets medical advice.
