| - I've seen the ads. I've read the reviews. And the fact is, people are selling this place - and selling it hard! Maybe too hard, in fact.
If you're automatically wowed by something that you've never had before, then I guess I can understand the appeal. Additionally, if you're the type that enjoys your sandwiches jam-packed with a hodgepodge of ingredients, then fully expect great things.
I ordered the No. 22, which seems to be one of the more popular choices. Honestly, it's really just a boatload of stuff all jam packed into toasted bread, that looks somewhat like a cross between an empanada and a pot pie. I expected the bread to pop in flavor based on appearance. The reality is that it's not really anything special beyond a mere crispy shell. The edges were hard and chewy. The ingredients were all okay, but as previously stated, it's a boatload of stuff that is all muddled together to the point where nothing really stands out except maybe the eggs.
For six bucks, I guess it works for what it is. But let's face it, a five star Pane Bianco sandwich this most definitely is not.
Their dessert options look like they'd be interesting to try and I'm sure I'll return at some point to sample another sandwich.
Maybe I just don't throw out five star reviews as liberally as other people. It's not bad, but there are far better places to go if you're looking for a good sandwich. But if you're seeking something quick, cheap, and edible, then Zookz is definitely worth trying.
Just keep your expectations realistic.
