I have mixed feelings about the saloon. I appreciate it as a music venue. It's relatively new, very well booked, features a great range of local, and touring acts, and is a great size for small to medium shows. There's a lovely upstairs patio area overlooking Fremont Street that's absolutely perfect for people-watching in between acts.
The only thing that really throws me off is how awful the service is (half an hour to order a beer when the bar ISN'T busy!?), and how expensive all of the drinks are. If it's not happy hour (and if you're coming to see a show, it's usually not) a small, plastic cup of domestic beer will cost you $5.50. A tall can of PBR is usually $4.50. I realize that it's a tourist area, but there are dozens of bars within 2 blocks of the saloon that offer way better deals 24/7.
If you want to see a good show, stop by, just do your drinking elsewhere.
