I've eaten at Gaetano's twice now and was holding back on a review until I visited for a final time, done a full meal with wine, but unfortunately that meal isn't going to happen so I have to go on the two meals I did manage to get in there.
The first time for mains I had pasta e fagioli followed with braciole with gnocchi. The pasta e fagioli was nice and hot, but lacked a lot of flavor. The gnocchi were mushy, and the flavor of the braciole was decent, however I had a stomachache the next day.
The second meal I had squash ravioli for mains and they were quite good.
Waiters were great at describing the specials but didn't necessarily have a comprehensive knowledge of the rest of the menu, which is a fairly standard pan-Italian menu. Both times the service was inattentive during the meal but quick to give the check.
In sum, based on my two dining experiences this is a trattoria trying to pass itself off as a ristorante. The service is not first-rate and neither is the food. I wouldn't be able to rate this place with 1 Michelin Star, i.e. 'very good cuisine in its category'. A further visit might push my rating up but for the time being, 2 stars.
