  • Hypothetical question for you: You have very, very important documents that you need copied, bound, printed or produced at the highest level of quality in the shortest time span possible. Do you: a) Do it yourself b) Take it to a print shop c) Entrust this perilous task to bored, disgruntled high school students working for just above minimum wage? I'll give you the chance to guess which option I chose. Yes, my review is only for the copy center at this location - mostly because I'd feel rather stupid reviewing this place any other way. "Oh, it has such a wonderful selection of business supplies!" - well yeah, it's a Staples, not an ice cream store. If it doesn't have business supplies then it's just a big, awkwardly lit room with empty shelves. Anyways, I came here once with my sister, who had a document on a USB stick that she desperately needed to print on some photo paper so she could finish a project by the afternoon. Nothing complicated here - the only challenge was that our printer wasn't working and we didn't have the capabilities to print this ourselves. So, we asked the young lady behind the counter if she wouldn't mind just plugging in our USB stick and printing off the document. Now, if you're in high school and you're reading this, let me help you out here with another hypothetical situation. You work in the very busy copy department of Staples. You have many, many orders to complete. Suddenly, an extraordinarily handsome young man and his younger sister approach your desk in a panic, asking if you'd do a task that would take you literally 45 seconds to complete. Do you: a) Briefly stop what you're doing and help the people standing directly in front of you out, since the orders your filling are for people NOT EVEN IN THE STORE that have deadlines of 1 - 3 days? b) Completely refuse to help them whatsoever, causing them to go online and write a snarky review full of hypothetical-but-not-really situations? I'll let you, reader, figure out what the young lady chose. That's right - I got a firm, "no, we're really busy". So I told her I used to work there and that this job would take just a minute of her time and we'd be extremely thankful. She wouldn't budge. So I asked to talk to a manager. She said SHE would talk to the manager. Well, that's not helpful whatsoever. The entire reason I want to talk to a manager is because YOU, darling, are utterly useless and I'm hoping somebody who is a bit older and has more common sense in their head than a Kardashian sister will see the merit in doing a quick task to impress a longtime customer and former employee. She walked over to the "manager", a man in his late twenties (who in Staples years is practically ancient) and paid lip service to the notion of asking him whether or not she could help us out. He also refused. So we left, pissed off. I don't know why I put so much faith in the decency and intelligence of retail employees, but I do. I trust that even a high school student who hates every waking minute of their job can see the value in making somebody happy by doing a very simple thing to make their day. I was let down. So yes, this is a great place to go if you need to buy a ream of paper. But if you are looking for an interaction that will restore your faith in humanity, or just not send it hurtling off a cliff in a ball of flames, I wouldn't recommend stopping by the copy center.
