| - I really love the ambiance at Common House, but the service has unfortunately been some of the worst we have experienced.
We went shortly after the restaurant opened, and absolutely loved the menu picks. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented, and everyone was friendly and kind. The service was dreadfully slow, but we put that down to the newness of everything for the staff.
We went back again with for lunch several weeks later. The menu was more limited at lunch, but again the food was great. Our service was actually worse the second visit - one of our menu choices was forgotten completely and the drinks were very slow to arrive - but with the great food we still gave Common House the benefit of the doubt, figuring that they still hadn't been open long and were working out some kinks. It was disconcerting to have the waiter blame the problem on the kitchen staff, and odd to have the food delivered by someone other than the person who took our order (that odd moment where the server asks - now who had the salad??), but again, kinks will be kinks in a new restaurant.
Our third visit was our last. We brought the family for a larger dinner, and again, great great food, incredibly poor service. No one asked us if we wanted refills on our drinks once the food came. The food arrived piecemeal so some of our party members were done eating when others just were served. And this time when we couldn't find our waiter for quite some time and asked another member of the wait staff for help, she said - sure! just a moment! - and then went away never to return.
So for us, even good food doesn't take away the sting of poor service. It is a shame that apparently Common House hasn't figured out how to effectively serve just yet, hopefully they are working on it.
