| - Popped in to pick up some pine-pellet cat litter this morning. This Pet Valu is well stocked, well priced, and well organised. I was impressed with how clean the shop was -- no trace of that pet store smell that permeates many small outfits. Said smell isn't a dealbreaker for me or anything, but it's nice when it's absent!
Anyway, the two ladies I met there were very friendly, polite, and had my litter ready, waiting, and labelled with my name (ya, I call ahead for such things). It's great when retailers can make a connection in a few minutes and establish that return customer vibe, and that's certainly what these two did for me.
Of note, given that they adopt out cats (yay!), there were at least two in store that I spotted -- that means there are probably more hiding out amongst the foodstuffs and whatnot. If you've bad cat allergies, be forewarned!
Finally, the particular litter I purchased is one I highly recommend: 100% pure pine pellets. This isn't the clumping pine stuff, which I hate because it sticks to cat paws and tracks everywhere. The pellets bond with the ammonia in cat urine, completely eliminating the smell, and then crumble into sawdust. When our cats pee all we smell is pine! It's a cinch to clean and, if you do it right (sift the pine shavings into a bag, put pellets back into litter box) it will last a very, very long time.
30lbs bag of Enviro-Litter ($13.99) lasts us months, and we have two kitties. How's that for "valu"? If you're still using that garbage clay stuff, stop. Now. You'll be doing your cat(s), wallet, nose, floors, and the environment a huge favour!
