  • When I first saw a Double Wide location near my in laws I got pretty excited. I've been to the South Side and Mars locations numerous times and have really enjoyed the food and beer selections. But the choice for this local chain's third location seems a bit off the mark. It replaces a longtime restaurant that older folks seemed to love called Teddy's, so I think that's one aspect that would make locals want to pass on this place. The little turn off at the light to Double Wide is still called Teddy Drive. We came here at dinnertime on a Saturday -- it was oddly desolate. I think there were two other families there in the dining area around 5 p.m.? It looked a little busier in the bar. Decor is a little more bare than the other places. I had the brisket, and it was as good as ordering it at any other location. It's moist, tender, practically melt-in-your-mouth and the sauce is mild but complements it well. I also had a few bites from the hubby's plate; he got the TV dinner meal so it was a sampling of all kinds of things. The pulled pork was very good, but the sauce was much hotter than I remember it being. I like spicy, but this was borderline over the top. I felt bad for my MIL, who ordered the pulled pork and couldn't even touch the sauce. Fries, traditional or vegan shoestring, are both very good. On the other hand, I don't think the vegetarian menu translates very well in this market. Double Wide has an impressive vegetarian selection. It's arguably one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the city, but the server told us not to bother looking at the last two pages of the menu unless we're vegetarian. I thought that was kind of a shame, since their veggie menu is very good too, regardless of diet. Overall, I love Double Wide, but will probably opt to go to one of their other locations over coming back here again.
