We brought our dog in last week on Monday only because our primary vet's office was closed and our dog was very ill.
After looking at her for 5 minutes the Dr walks out and sends a girl in with a list of things they "suggest" costing in excess of $1,000 BEFORE they gave us any diagnoses. I text my friend who worked in the vet field a screen shot of what they wanted to do. She told me 3 tests were unnecessary and everything else was awful expensive. I said no to the 3 tests, so they just scratch them off.
Then the Dr gave us a diagnosis of mega esophagus (a very bad disease that would require life long care) and phenomena. She showed me the x-rays and what the mega esophagus actually was. So she spent 10 minutes with the dog, gave her an IV of fluids, gave us some prescriptions (which we obviously had to pay for as well) took x-rays and ran a couple tests and charged us $800! Which is absurd but our dog was so sick we were willing to do what ever it took.
The dog got worse over night so we took her to our primary vet the next day. She looked at the X-rays and said she had NEITHER mega esophagus or pneumonia! They took blood, ran tests and charged us $88....over $700 less than what we paid this place.
Unfortunately our dog passed away last night after a long fight with a still undetermined disease. Our primary vet (South Mountain Vet) saw the dog 5 times in a week, including meeting us on a Saturday when they were closed to treat her. They kept her a couple times for 5 or 6 hours at a time, gave her daily fluids, ran multiple tests and frankly did all they could do for a week before she lost her battle.
South Mountain charged us $377 for all of this....and I even got an apology from the Dr herself saying sorry it was so much and we lost her!
So $450 to them TOTAL for constant care and treatment.
Over $800 to Family Vet Care to give us TWO miss diagnoses & X-Rays and spend 10 minutes with the dog tops
I swear it feels like they work on commission...they come in with all this unnecessary stuff and if you say no they just scratch it off like oh well we tried.
This place is all about making as much money off of customers who are willing to pay whatever it takes to help their pets get well.
Not sure how they sleep at night
