| - Had to grab dinner in central Phoenix on my way to an event and decided to try Red Wok as I drove by. Huge place, dinner is $10, place looked pretty clean. So far, so good.
So I grabbed a plate and headed toward the buffet. The buffet is huge with easily 100 selections. Problem is 98 of them looked so bad I couldn't bring myself to even try them.
I grabbed what I thought was surely one of those beef skewers you see at most chinese buffets; but the I looked to see the sign above it said "Teriyaki Chicken". Needless to say I put it back immediately.
Now I am NOT a picky eater by any means but the only thing I could even bring myself to try were the Korean BBQ ribs which were way overcooked and chewy, a california roll (it may be a good thing that all the sushi is made from "krab mix" with no real fish in sight), some white rice, and the almond green beans which were actually fresh, not frozen, and really good.
They also have Thrifty ice cream which is always a winner, but just as with the dinner selections, all the other desserts looked left over from weeks ago.
So if you enjoy a cheap buffet dinner, with lots of variety, in a pleasant and clean atmosphere then Red Wok might be for you. If your criteria in food includes "edible", stay away.
