  • Love me some DQ and so glad it's in my neighborhood!! First off I'm hoping that the people reading the reviews on this DQ have a sense of humor, because I read through all of them and the ones that gave this place only 1 or 2 stars are hilarious! Let's just clear the air here, 5 year olds are picky. There is a big difference between strawberry ice cream made with artificial flavoring (which DQ does not have) vs. strawberry topping made with real strawberries and simple syrup... a reason to never return to DQ?! Silly. Secondly, This DQ does not have a brazier (AKA burgers, chicken strips, fries etc.) DQ started off as an ice cream shop and added food items in the 80's. Some smaller shops still only serve ice cream. Anyone still remember the location on Mill Ave??? I guess not. Lastly, you had a bad experience with kids that didn't know what they were doing = 1 star. News flash! This place has only been open a few months. These are high school and college kids. I'm sure no one knew what they were doing because they were new and still being trained. Give them some slack! Now that we've cleared the air, here is my 2 cents!! I live close by. Since opening day my hubby and I have frequented the place either walking here or going through the drive thru. Every time we were greeted when we enter the building or via the drive thru window. The building was an old Long John's Silvers that they gutted and completely re-did. They keep it very clean in there. Never had a problem with product (I love chocolate dipped cones.. hubs likes blizzards). Word is, this DQ is owned by the same people that own the Rural and Elliott location. Why is this significant? Because that location has an A rating with the health department, and the manager that got that store that A rating now works at this new location. My only small complaint. DQ has brought back the 'blizzards are served upside down' rule again. If they don't flip it upside down when they present it to you, it's free. All well and good and these kids are doing that... but when you go through the drive thru, they scrape off that extra bit above the cup, put a flat lid on it, THEN they flip it upside down. I think that's cheating. Also, I'm thinking a bubble lid should be used so we get the full thing without scraping it off and wasting perfectly delicious ice cream.
