| - I've been going to the Garrison for a while, almost since they opened. It has become one of my favourite pubs in Calgary, and I have visited many. Maybe too many. :-)
Beer is a commodity, and the Garrison's prices are in line with pubs and bars in central Calgary. Premium pints nudged up against the $8 mark in Calgary a loooooong time ago, so if you can't afford it, pre-drink or stay home. The prices here are the same or within $0.50 of the Ship, OJ's, KPub, 510, Yardhouse, Unicorn, etc.
What really makes the Garrison a winner is the food. They do daily specials, and come up with some great stuff. If the special isn't to your liking, try one of the fantastic pizzas or the Garrison burger [top-rated pick by FFWD]. The house side salad is excellent, and the fries are a nice thick cut. Appetizers are pretty standard, they do wings, calamari, nachos, etc. I usually skip those and get a full meal instead.
I've had great service at the Garrison. Once out of every 20 days, a server will be having a bad night, but you get that everywhere. The thing I like is that there is reasonably low staff turnover. The staff have a great attitude, and if you are friendly, they are friendly back. Some of them are forgetful [I'm talking to you, Math Waitress], but overall the service is as good or better than most pubs I've been to in Calgary.
The fact that this place is busy most nights is testament to its appeal. Great food, fair prices and nice staff. Bonus - walking distance!
