| - I was incredibly disappointed with my experience at the Jiffy Lube on University Ave. What really made it worse was I had high expectations for them after my initial phone call earlier in the day!
My encounter with Jiffy Lube began when I realized I needed to get an oil change and that this evening would be the best time to do it. I called a Meineke, but it was 5:15 p.m., they were closing at 6, and they couldn't take any more customers. Totally understandable, but still disappointing. After a quick internet search, I saw that this Jiffy Lube was open until 7 p.m. I quickly gave them a call and asked if they could take my car. The gentleman I spoke with was very friendly and said yes, they would take any car that came in before 7 p.m. He seemed so nice and that seemed like a great (and generous) policy. I was excited!
I got to the location and a gentleman (let's call him G1) came out to greet me. What a nice touch! He told me to drive my car up to the bay, then walked me to the waiting room. I inquired about the different packages and was told someone would be in to help me figure out which one was right for me. But no one came in. I stood at the counter for about 5-10 minutes before I realized no one was coming. I sat down to wait. The two other folks in the waiting room got called up and they were all squared away. However, still no acknowledgement of my car.
Then, I saw my car getting pulled up to the bay and someone started working on it (getting underneath and I'm guessing changing my oil!). This was before I had even spoken with anyone about which package I was getting, etc. I was a bit confused, but sat quietly and waited. Finally, I got called outside. They told me my car was a "high mileage" car and I needed the $60 oil change package. I declined and asked for a more basic package. A different gentleman (who wasn't much of a gentleman, and who we'll call G2) told me I could get the $29.99 package. However, on the phone, I had been told about an attractive $39.99 package that included my car getting vacuumed, my windows getting washed, and a fluid top-off. After I asked about it, I finally got him to agree on the correct package.
He asked for my information and I told him that I'd been to another Jiffy Lube location in the past. I inquired about whether they might have my info in the system. He told me he looked up the plate and he couldn't find it. Oh yes, I told him, I had changed license plates and that might be why. He told me I needed to give him the information. He did not seem happy at that point... at all.
After that came the upsell. By now, it was clear G2 was not happy to be there (or maybe just didn't want to speak with me). He told me my air filter was dirty. (But later, he told me my air filter was fine.) He told me a couple of other things, but did not seem interested in selling them. He also mentioned tire rotations, but then skipped that screen by telling me he couldn't do it. He told me the car would be done in about 10 minutes. Okay, great! I went back inside.
Then, G2 called me back out and told me one of the belts in the car was cracking. He said he didn't know how long it had and that I could basically have my car stop on me at any time. He then said we had to go over the whole sheet he had on the clipboard together, so we did. He mentioned the belt actually required a special tool so he couldn't do it today anyway. He continued to talk about the belt and I thanked him and told him I would get it taken care of another day. Then, he asked me if I REALLY wanted my car vacuumed. I was confused, since the service was included in the $10 extra I spent on the oil change. But I said, yes please, and I went back inside.
Very soon after, G2 walked inside and I checked out. There was a $5 coupon I'd found during my quick internet search, so I got to use that. (The lady that checked out before me got $10 off, but I figured she had some kind of rapport with the guy.) I go outside and I'm about to get in the car and I realize... the car hasn't been vacuumed and the windows haven't been washed. I basically spent an extra $10 for NOTHING!
I see G1 and inquire about the car. He offers to vacuum and wash the windows. Nice! However, when he's done vacuuming (1-2 minutes later), I look down and see the vacuuming job wasn't stellar, so I ask if I can quickly use the vacuum myself. The gentleman is very nice about it and I end up vacuuming my own car!
Moral of story: don't come here. I paid extra $$ so I could vacuum my own car. I could have done that for quarters at a gas station! No, I don't expect the car to be pristine. (Although there are other awesome places that give you a car wash AND oil change for the same price I paid today!) But I do expect that the staff don't get upset (1) when I ask if you can look me up in the system and (2) when you have to vacuum the car when I paid extra for it.
I'll update this post if anything weird happens after the oil change as well.
