| - I'm really impressed by this spot. I'm discovering that Montreal is full of small hipster bohemian cafés, just oozing character and ironic shabby-chic décor. You know the kind, where it wants you to feel like whole place just tumbled out of your kooky aunt's junk room, where no two chairs or teacups match...except you can just feel that everything has been so meticulously curated, from the hippest curio shoppes? And where somehow end up facing a $35 bill after a coffee and a light, if delicious and artisinally prepared lunch?
After running into so many places like that in town, I was so pleasantly surprised by Le Cagibi - because of its lack of pretense, and lack of crazily inflated prices. This is, dare I say it, the "real thing." The folks working here are warm and friendly, the food is amazing and cheap, the coffee is delish, and the hodgepodge decor actually feels authentic. Maybe your kooky aunt is actually the owner. Maybe all the dishes actually came from Goodwill. This table...hey wait, this is the same chipped-enamel kitchen table we have in our apartment, from my in-laws' parents' house.
I've been here for morning coffee (scones, mmmmm) and for lunch (soup with bread for $2.75. Seriously.), and will be back again.
