My husband and I planned a trip to AZ to visit my family over Christmastime but wanted to break up the drive about half way without staying in Las Vegas. Just by chance I found this delightful historic hotel online so we booked a room for overnight. Arriving mid-afternoon we were delighted at the appearance of the hotel and welcoming entrance. This was not your standard "box" hotel. Very nice staff at the front desk, lovely lobby with antique-like furnishings and a gorgeous Christmas tree. A "real" key to open your room door, charming furnishings in the room with a historic feel to them, clean, neat with a fantastic firm mattress on the bed. We had time to walk through the quaint Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum on the bottom floor of the hotel (guests get free passes) which was fascinating. Found a great hamburger spot not far away for dinner then drove around Boulder City and the neighborhoods to discover one house with an incredible Christmas light display. Our free (to hotel guests) FULL breakfast in the hotel dining room (which was also nicely decorated) was amazingly delicious! The best French Toast I'd ever eaten and my husband was hungry so he ordered the additional "Big Dam Breakfast" for only $3.00 to accompany the free breakfast he ordered and everything was cooked to perfection and our server was very friendly. We headed out with full tummies and smiles on our faces saying we'd be back when passing through next year. It was only minutes to Hoover Dam so we parked and walked over the new bridge for wonderful views of the dam and read all the interesting interpretive panels and plaques about the building of the bridge.
The room price may be a little high, but it was worth it to us since we rarely travel any more and we adored the historic value of our experience. (In 1982 the hotel became the first Nevada hotel accepted into the National Register of Historic Places.)
