  • I stopped by I Love Arepas on the way home from a daytime pool session at the Golden Nugget. After swimming, sunning, and bearing that awesomely scary water slide, I was hungry but didn't want to fill up on anything too heavy in anticipation for a dinner later that night. So I figured arepas would be a good meal to hold me over without making me feel too full. And for less than $10 I was able to get 2 arepas and a drink. Not a bad deal! They're open from 3pm to midnight everyday are located on the corner of Wyoming and LV Blvd, in the same parking lot as Dino's. An arepa is most like a Venezuelan version of gordita, but it's stuffed with meat, cheese, or whatever else you'd like. I think my favorite part of the whole experience was the masa cake, because it was grilled but still soft and warm inside. They were obviously freshly made, and made really well. I got the beef tongue arepa with had tomato, onion, and a green pepper in it. It was very greasy and messy, but not in a bad way where you feel like you need to run 10 miles after eating all that grease. The second arepas was the reina pepiada which was stuffed with cold chicken salad made with chicken, peas, avocado, onion, and was also very messy. They were both amazing tasting, and he gave me 2 sauces to go with them. One was a creamy cilantro-type dressing, and the second was more of a salsa-like one that tasted like it was made out of green peppers. The salsa one went really well with the beef tongue, and I felt that the reina pepiada didn't really need a sauce. I'm sure it goes well with something, but next time I stop by I'll try it with something else. The passion fruit drink was good, but after I ordered it I saw he had soursop, which I'll definitely have to try next time.
