  • This Harkins theatre, built just before the era of stadium seating and well before the recliner era, was once an established meeting place for students of Cocopah Middle School and Chaparral High. Not so much any more. They've apparently migrated in search of amenities. Still, Shea 14 has a lot going for it. It has all the Harkins basics, refillable drink cups and the like. Its clean and well maintained. It's true strength, however, is in the features it shows, a combination of mainstream studio movies and independent films. Along with Fashion Square, this is one of the few spots around Phoenix where you can see some of these smaller films. No, the seats don't recline, but they're comfortable enough. The slope of the individual theaters is traditional, less extreme than modern stadium configurations. Kids may have to use boosters to see over high chair backs, a minor inconvenience, but the boosters are readily available out in the hallway. A five star theatre 20 years ago, Shea 14 is still worthy of four stars today because of diversity in films it shows.
