This place was awesome! My wife goes Gaga for animals, so pretty much everywhere we travel we end up seeing a zoo, aquarium or some other animal attraction. I was blown away with this new and would put it in the top 10 zoos that I have visited. Most of the animal enclosures were nice and updated. They were in the process of updating others and building new areas while we were there. The animals all seemed very energetic. I don't know if it's typically so quiet, but when we went the last Thursday of August there weren't too many people there. There are plenty of informative signs throughout the zoo if you want to know about the animals. The aquarium was okay, but I was definitely more impressed with the zoo itself. The one thing that I did find strange about the zoo was that all of the concession stands and gift stands were closed by 4 o'clock the day we were there. It was kind of a bummer, because we were thirsty and only had credit cards. I recommend bringing cash for the variety of vending machines located throughout the park. I'm sure if we have some time to kill and are back in Pittsburgh my wife will suggest the zoo to kill some time.
