I went to this business to purchase a gift for my daughter and to browse for knitting supplies. I had been traveling, was en route back to Oregon. I was told to leave my backpack in the foyer as I browsed. There were pre-made samples in the front area, one of which I was interested in purchasing (a small scarf). I picked it up to check the price/label. I was abruptly told to "put it down". I said I wanted to buy it, and was met with "It's not for sale! It's a sample." The employee said something to the effect of "This place is for hobbyists." I replied with, "I came in here because I want a hobby." To this, I was told roughly that I needed to leave immediately. I believe I was treated this way based on my non-traditional appearance at that time. I was very respectful during the visit, and showed sincere interest in spending money there. Sadly, I was met with distinct hostility that was unwarranted. I looked like an "outsider" who did not have a lot of money. My behavior and language were appropriate, and I even smiled. I work as a professional in my daily life. The only difference is that during that summer I was away from work, and looked like a traveling hippie without a lot of money. Needless to say, my feelings were hurt and I felt pretty offended.
