I loved this place! This will be my regular spot when I'm driving through Champaign. We chose this place because there seemed to be vegetarian options and I am so happy we did! We arrived on a Friday evening, which was a bad idea because the wait was like 45 minutes. The restaurant seems separate from the bar and waiting area, which was nice because it was quiet where we ate. It seemed family friendly as a result. There was really good energy in the place.I really enjoyed the atmosphere, which made the wait a bit easier.
I ordered a cold brew coffee and cream and my date ordered a weissenheimer beer. He lived in Germany years ago and was struck by the flavor of the beer. It reminded him of the days back in Germany. My cold brewed coffee was delicious, as well. I ordered the stuffed poblano pepper and he ordered the blue cornmeal trout. They didn't take long to bring out the food which was surprising seeing as though it was very crowded. The pepper, came with a roasted red pepper sauce and ancho rice and beans was superb! The pepper was charred and had just enough heat to make the tongue tingle, but was still very flavorful. The fish meal was a delicate combination of andouille sausage hash and greens (with pork) over top of the fish with some kid of gravy that pulled it all together. My date enjoyed it immensely. We both cleaned our plates and still ordered dessert! If you follow my reviews, you don't hear me speak about desserts or sweets much, but I have a weakness for bread pudding and they had it on the menu. Sour cherry bread pudding was heavenly (I hate that we decided to share). It was too sweet and the cherries added the right amount of umph. This bread pudding was fluffy enough that it wasn't doughy but dry enough that it remained moist. Perfecto! We walked around the small downtown area after dinner to digest some of the food and was impressed with the variety of bars and restaurants that were in the small area. Like the Terminator said, "I'll be back!"
